Over the last couple of days, Felicity and I have been continuing our exploration of South East Auckland. Yesterday we started by checking out Barry Curtis park in Flat Bush.

Royal Albany Ride to test drains
After installing several new drains on the bike track last week, I was keen to test them out.

Shit sucker suks up
A terrible stench this morning reminded me that the septic tank cleaner was here.

Footpath clearing on Albany Heights Rd
The footpath behind the trees on Albany Heights Rd is a great place to run. Recently, one section became completly impassable, due to the encroachment of cutty grass and gorse.
Bringing up Father
I was right, the Woodhill tracks were running sweet after all the rain.

Sylvester – Cobb Tramp 2011
We’ve spent a fantastic week tramping around the edge of the Cobb Valley. It was rather wetter than we hoped, but a good time was had by all.
Stairway to heaven
We went to church this afternoon. Spent two rather uncomfortable but rewarding hours on the pews of St Michaels Catholic church in Remuera.
Kristin Graduation Dinner
Here we are in the Pulman Hotel ballroom, waiting for dinner to be served. I’m starving, might have to eat my third bread roll.
Long Bay development
I went down to the beach for a run this afternoon, and stopped for a look at the new sub-division. The developers have obviously spent a lot of money on planting up the stormwater ponds.
Culture in Manukau
This weekend, Felicity and I have been exploring the Manukau harbour foreshore around Manurewa.
Power to the people
On my run this afternoon I passed through the old Clemows orchard, down near Rosedale Rd. On the public reserve between the houses and the creek, there are dozens of old apple trees, where those in the know can get free fruit in season.
Deer at Connifer Grove office
I surprised two wild deer as I arrived at the Connifer Grove picnic area in Woodhill Forest this morning. Bikes travel fairly quietly, so I was only a hundred metres or so away before they bounded off. A normal height wire fence didn’t even slow them down!
Victoria Park Tunnel walk
Yesterday I got to walk through the new tunnel, just before it becomes a motorway. It was remarkably clean, having been completely vaccumed for a $350-a-plate black tie dinner the night before.
Mother’s new vegie garden
My mother’s landscaping project got finished today. I went over for lunch and to do a quick inspection.
Front Deck
Just experimenting with uploading pics.
My first berm
After dropping Judith at school this morning, I ducked into the bush behind Massey University to put the finishing touches on the berm I have been making on the Royal Albany Bicycle Trail.
De-forestation in Albany
When I biked to the top of the nursery hill this afternoon, I noticed all the big pines at the back of the old Centrepoint Nursery have been chopped. The building in the photo is the Kauri house.
Why can’t we use the Parnell tunnel
Running through the Auckland domain today, I watched a train going into the tunnel at Parnell. Just to the left of the main portal is a smaller tunnel which has been blocked up with concrete blocks.
Unsworth Cycleway
Leaving my car parked at the Warehouse, I headed off on foot up the Albany highway and down Bush road to Rosedale Park. On the far side of the park is the start of the cycle way.
