This morning we were both keen to keep exploring where we kayaked to yesterday, so we drove to where Triangle Rd crosses the Huruhuru creek and started looking for a walking track upstream.

I’ve been keen to try out my new kayak racks since I got them, and today I got my wish.
Took my bike out to Riverhead yesterday to check out what the West Coast Riders Club have been up to in their block of forest. While I waited for Kerry I rode a loop that involved descending on ‘Dodgys’ trail, which disappeared completely over near the western boundary, forcing me to push my bike several [...]
As we headed south on the motorway this morning, a gentle drizzle began which forced me to learn how to use the wipers on the new car. By the time we arrived at Lambie Drive it seemed to have settled in, so we donned our trusty ponchos and set off alongside the stream towards Manurewa.
Yesterday I rode a bunch of Woodhill trails for what might be the last time. Next week the loggers arrive to harvest the pine trees. The bike park hopes to be able to repair the tracks afterwards, but they will be out in the open for quite a few years; the sandy surface will dry [...]
Our mission for today was to explore the section of the Te Araroa Trail that runs from the edge of the Manukau Harbour and up the banks of Puhinui Creek.
I’ve just returned home from a very pleasant outing to the West coast, where Ian Thomsen was celebrating his 60th birthday. Judith went early in the morning to work as a kitchen slave, but we arrived at midday, just as the BBQ was being lit. We didn’t even manage two of the five whole beef [...]
Today I went to Turners Auctions to bid on a Nissan X-trail I found on their website. I had a good look in the morning, and a short drive on their “test track” – hit nearly 60km/h on the straight before having to brake heavily for the corner. Then I went for an hour’s run [...]
My dad has just been approved for a rest home subsidy, so we went to inspect one today. I think it will be good for him to have three meals a day, and laundry and cleaning done. When I arrived at Parakai, he was sitting in the sun admiring his beautiful variagated lillies, of which [...]
Over the last couple of days, Felicity and I have been continuing our exploration of South East Auckland. Yesterday we started br checking out Barry Curtis park in Flat Bush. It is a bit bare at present, but as the trees grow it will become an interesting area to walk in. We couldn’t help noticing [...]
